Lal graduated from Newcastle upon Tyne Polytechnic in 1978 with a BA Hons in Fine Art (sculpture and printmaking). She set up a printmaking studio in West Dorset, where she produced etchings for some 20 years, supplying galleries in London, the south West and Vancouver. Feeling increasingly disenchanted by her subject matter - that of landscape - she returned to making one off sculptural pieces, mostly from found or discarded objects washed up on Chesil Beach. It is these objects and the associations they trigger, which provide the starting point for each piece. |
